The Color Guard has been practicing since summer for its half-time performances during home football games as well as out-of-state competitions that are scheduled for late September and October.
According to senior Color Guard member Letitia Li, the next Color Guard competition is the Lawrence Central Invitational which is scheduled for Sept. 11 at Lawrence Central.
“We have a few out-of-state competitions this year and I’m really excited,” Li said.
The BOA Louisville Regional is scheduled for Sept. 25 and the BOA Midwest Regional is scheduled for Oct. 2 at Kettering Fairmount High School.
Li said that to prepare for these upcoming competitions, Color Guard practices are very rigorous and take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and every day after school until 6 p.m. except Mondays. She also said every Gold Day morning, the team practices for two hours and is involved in a class specific to Color Guard.
“We either learn more parts of our show or we clean more parts of the show, and by clean I mean we make sure we’re all doing our choreography at the same time and at the right part of the music,” Li said.
Li said the Color Guard’s practice all leads up to the Grand Nationals, which are scheduled for the weekend of Nov. 11.
The competitions to occur later in the Color Guard season are Li’s favorite part of being on Color Guard. She said, “My favorite part (of Color Guard) would have to be performing in front of a lot of people and with my teammates.” By Emma Neukam <[email protected]>
