Best Buddies will be having their next chapter meeting on Dec. 7. This club’s goal is to bring social inclusion and equality for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
According to Alexia Ohnemus, president and senior, students at the high school level are paired with one life skills student and one general education student.
“These matches are called ‘buddy pairs’, and they’re required to keep a monthly commitment of keeping weekly contact and hanging out outside of school at least twice a month as well as attending chapter events,” Ohnemus said via email.
Ohnemus said the club has about 200 members, and students who want to join next school year can at the organization’s website, www.bestbuddiesonline.org (BBO).
“The goal of Best Buddies is to not have to exist in the future,” Ohnemus said. By Audrey Courter <[email protected]>
