CMYC will have its next meeting on Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m., according to Candy Martin, a secretary from the office of the Mayor. On the agenda for this meeting will be a community event scheduled to occur on Oct. 5 and other pressing issues, according to George Gemelas, president of Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) and junior.

This event, tentatively named “High School Night,” is a new project by CMYC. On Oct. 5, CMYC will set up an activity night with a movie in an open space next to Bazbeaux. The event is open to the general public, but it will be mainly directed towards high school students. There will be no fees required to attend, Gemelas said. However, food is not provided, and attendees may want to grab a bite to eat at the local downtown restaurants – these restaurants will offer a discount on the Friday night during which “High School Night” occurs. Also, WHJE will be DJing before the event.

“The movie will most likely be a Disney movie,” Gemelas said. “The reason we started this event was to encourage community fellowship. There needs to be more to do in Carmel. Oftentimes, I go to downtown Carmel on a night or a weekend and it’s mostly empty and boring.”

“I am looking forward to a year to establish ourselves as a group that benefits and provides opportunities for the youth,” Gemelas said. “We are innovative, we want to find new ideas, and I want to continue our innovation.”
