Every Monday, Carmel Connects club members meet and refurbish computers which are later distributed to less fortunate people. In the next week, the club will implement a new method that will allow for more efficient refurbishment of computers.
Krishna Pathak, club member and junior, said, “Our task of repurposing computers stays the same, but we’ll be doing it at a much more productive rate through the use of Windows Deployment Services, an integrated feature in Windows to deploy an operating system to several computers at once without the need for physical
media. Computer output will double.”
According to Pathak, Carmel Connects club members are approaching the end of this new method’s configuration. He also said that this new technique will allow Net Literacy, the nonprofit organization responsible for the distribution, to distribute more computers.
Sponsor Margaret Winans said that more members will also increase the efficiency of the process. She said, “We want more members because then we can repurpose computers at an even faster rate. Our goal is to repurpose as many computers as possible.”
Any students who are interested in joining Carmel Connects Club can speak to Winans in her room, F104, or to any current club members.
