On Oct. 30, the men’s cross country team will participate in the State meet held at Terre Haute’s LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The course is located on 599 S. Tabortown Road. The meet begins at 1:45 p.m. Admission is $8 per person.
Other teams competing for the title include Columbus North, North Central, Noblesville, Lawrence North and Hamilton Southeastern. Head Coach Erhard “Doc” Bell said the top contender is Columbus North, which is ranked first nationally by Marc Bloom’s “The Harrier,” a cross-country magazine.
The team placed fourth at both the Regional and Semi-State meets on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 respectively. However, Bell said, “We did not run as good of a race last week (Semi-State) as we ran in the Regional.”
Captain and senior Christopher Walden finished 10th last week at the Semi-State meet due to sickness. He said “I am excited for the meet this weekend. I can’t believe it’s already here.”
Bell said he is looking for Walden as well as sophomores Patrick “Pat” Appleton and Daniel Williams to lead the team. Other potential contributors include junior Eric Kinn, freshman Bobby Browning, senior Collin Brunk and sophomore Charlie Watson. By Reuben Warshawsky <[email protected]>
