The freshman men’s basketball team is having a strong start, and the team hopes to continue on with its strong record. According to Head Coach Derek Moser, the team has a strong work ethic and the players will try to keep winning. They will play in the County Championship on Feb. 9.
Moser said that the team worked hard during the season. He feels that the players’ hard work ethic will not only help them during the season but also will better basketball players in the future. Moser said that the team’s strongest point is its offense, especially with its few turnovers and outside shooting. However, Moser said that the team needs to play more aggressively so they could draw more fouls and get more rebounds.
“We’re doing a good job with shooting from the outside and not turning the ball over,” Moser said. “However, we need to play more aggressively if we want to win the County Championship and beat tough opponents like Terre Haute South and Fishers.”
Freshman basketball player Scott Levine agreed with Moser that the team is doing really well. Levine said that the team needs to be tougher and focus early on in the game since the players have a tendency of trying to come back from behind. Although Levine said that he feels that he is scoring and rebounding well, he added on that he needs to improve on shooting. Levine said that he’s excited to see how good the varsity team will be when the current freshmen eventually start to play on varsity in the next few years.
“I hope that our school will watch out for us,” Levine said. “I have a feeling that we will help Carmel’s basketball team in the future.”
