The school’s Electric Ensemble will host a free concert in the auditorium at 4 p.m. on April 3, according to Hyesoo Chae, Electric Ensemble president and senior.
“There are a lot of songs people can listen to,” Chae said. “We’re playing jazz pieces like ‘Sing, Sing, Sing;’ we’re playing pop like ‘Happy’ (and) ‘Get Lucky.’ It’s a mixture.”
According to Chae, who founded the group last year, the Electric Ensemble is “an organization that allows students – there are currently around 15 – to perform with their electric instruments and explore genres such as pop, jazz, or rock.”
Orchestra director Elisabeth Ohly-Davis said that students lead the entire group. “They gather on Monday nights and just start playing,” she said. “It’s definitely student-run, and there’s a lot of teamwork going on.”
Chae said that the concert will be special for those who show up. “They’ll get to see a lot of instruments that they probably wouldn’t see usually,” she said. “We’re also playing pieces that the group members have composed or arranged.”
Ohly-Davis, meanwhile, said that the Electric Ensemble has done an impressive job preparing the music for this concert. “It’s a really great reflection on the orchestra program,” she said.
