On Sept. 19 Indian Student Alliance (ISA) plans to hold a call-out meeting in Room A326 after school. The club’s goals this year are to gain new members and be involved in a variety of activities. “I hope that a bunch of people come and then that we will hopefully be able to retain half,” said Nida Khan, club president and senior. “We are going to have more games and more structure because apparently underclassman like structure.”
One game planned for the call out meeting is Heads Up, commonly seen on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” It involves placing a name or picture on your forehead and guessing what it is based on clues given by the other participants. The difference for the club will be the Indian theme of the name or picture.
“We have generated interest within the freshman,” said officer and junior Aryaman Gupta. “But what can we do to retain them? So, we’re trying to plan fun activities to keep everyone involved in the club.”
With the changing of the school year Khan said she also hope to have club members more involved in organizing events. “I’m going to delegate more things and actually hold people accountable for what they say they are going to do. No more Mr. Nice Nida.”
Paige Wehr, club sponsor and teacher said the biggest problem last year was carrying through with the plans but she has high hopes for this year.
“Our lives are just full of expectations and unhappiness,” said Khan. “Our club is the place where you can escape that, with culture.”
